Moving through pregnancy: start where you are

There’s a persistent idea that pregnancy is a time to be careful to the point of stopping. For most people, that isn’t the case at all — and gentle, well-adapted movement can make a real difference to how these months feel.

What tends to help most isn’t intensity. It’s the quiet foundations: deep core and pelvic-floor awareness, stronger glutes and upper back to counter the aches that come with a changing centre of gravity, and simple breathing strategies that settle the nervous system.

Most mothers-to-be join us from around fourteen weeks, though it depends on your individual pregnancy. If you’ve never done Pilates or barre before, that’s genuinely fine — but if you’re not used to exercising, we’ll start with a one-to-one session first so I can assess your effort zones and set you up safely.

In class you’ll find weights, balls and small props, and a simple principle: you choose your safe zone, your play zone or your challenge zone, depending on how you feel that day. Some days those are very different places. That’s expected.

And if you’re unsure whether now is the right time, ask me — and have a quick word with your midwife or GP if you’d like the reassurance.
